Label Exhibition of national interest. Published in 1862, Flaubert's novel traces the fatal attraction between Salammbô, priestess of Tanit, and Mathô, leader of the mercenaries revolting against opulent Carthage.
By bringing together literature, painting, sculpture, photography, performing arts, cinema, comics and archaeology, the Salammbô exhibition reveals the considerable impact of this text on the arts and imagination, as well as its legacy in the history of the Mediterranean and its current relevance.
Supported by the Réunion des Musées Métropolitains Rouen Normandie, the Mucem of Marseille and the National Heritage Institute of Tunisia, the exhibition presents 350 works including archaeological treasures of the Punic period from the Bardo and Carthage museums. Opening: 10am to 6pm every day except Tuesdays and May 1st
