Modest and portable, the workbook is the hero of "Flaubert, la rage d'écrire" (Flaubert, the rage to write) presented at the IMEC from October 14 to December 24, 2021. Always at hand, the notebook accompanies the formulation of the idea; its scribbled pages are a mine, a laboratory, an echo chamber. It reminds us that there is no creation, no interpretation, no research without trial and error. This is what Flaubert, better than any other, has also taught us. In addition to a set of notebooks by Gustave Flaubert, shown for the first time thanks to the generosity and support of the National Library, the IMEC will present the notebooks of Marguerite Duras, Alain Robbe-Grillet, Violette Leduc, Jean Genet, Jacques Audiberti... but also those of today's writers, invited to open for us the workshop of their work. Around this exceptional exhibition, the IMEC will propose: a series of Masterclasses and interviews with 10 great writers of our time, an author's residency, echoing the theme of the workbook, meetings and writing workshops, for school and university audiences, workshops with students of Fine Arts and Masters of literary creation, mediation actions and awareness of the work of Flaubert and literature as a creative work
