"In the privacy of Gustave Flaubert" is a biographical and iconographic exhibition that aims to make the image and the family universe of the writer more familiar.
Although very reluctant to reveal his own portrait and opposed to any illustration of his work, Gustave Flaubert lived among the many portraits of his family members. Drawn, painted, sculpted portraits and funeral effigies constitute a varied corpus that deserves to be collected and exhibited.
The highlight of this exhibition will undoubtedly be the presentation of the writer's death mask, which has never been exhibited in Rouen since its creation in 1880. Very well documented, this last portrait is described by Guy de Maupassant who was one of the first to visit the master's bedside.
